Recommend!! This ride is amazing with the night view... As n when the car raises to the top the view gets better and mesmerizing.. the rates are reasonable and you must try it out.. of course you can walk up the castle from stairs but you wud miss on elevated views of the chain Bridge ... Also note that don't lose the ticket as you need it to come down via same car..

Great way to ride to the top of the hill. Good fun, and good price too! Just beware that in the queue you will hard pressed to choose a mini bus tour instead, however I believe that the funicular is far more unique and fun, so stand your ground! Only takes a minute to transport you to the top. The queue also moves quite quickly. I would definitely recommend the trip up as there are many things to see at the top, and the views are fab.
Really nice short ride up to the castle from where you can have an amazing view of Budapest!!! One-way costs HUF 1,000 and return costs HUF 1,500! Worth it!!
It was a fun experience and the view that we got to see you and enjoy was phenomenal especially at the top. But if you are in the area you can do what we did, which is to use it only on our way up that way we got to enjoy the experience, the view, take pictures, and then we went back down walking. That’s only if you want to save some euros.
We only travelled down via the Funicular and its a pretty short ride lasting about 30 seconds! You're not really able to take photos on the journey either as the view is obscured from within the cars. Not particularly cheap either at 1200 forint (3.60) for a one way ticket. A tip is to go up via the cultural center as there is an escalator and then a lift taking you to the top on the same level as the castle and it's free!
Very unique piece of machinery! The construction took 2 years, between 1868 and 1870. It was inaugurated on the 2nd of March 1870. It was powered by steam motors. The funicular was used by millions, around 75 years, until the second world war. During the war was heavily damaged. After a few attempts for reconstruction it was opened again for public in 1986. Nowadays it is used by 500000-1000000 people every year.
Definitely worth it! The ride is short but it’s so beautiful.
Excellent tour where we can have a nice view of the city of Budapest.
