While I am 99.9% in favor of nuclear energy and find it a beautiful (albeit eerie) structure, the amount of noise pollution and light pollution is wild. During the day there is a constant whirring of turbines that can be heard for miles, and a low rumble that can be heard if inside. At night the noise drops significantly, but there is still always a low rumble that can be heard while indoors. Even with active-noise-canceling headphones the low rumble cannot be escaped. In addition to the noise pollution, the amount of light this thing puts out is incredible. It is like being in a suburb just outside a major city, but it's out in the country. I'm not talking about the lights to warn aircraft, but the lights around the facility--things that could be significantly reduced by simply painting the roads black or covering them with tarmac. When talking to locals, it doesn't sound like anyone having to deal with the pollution gets anything in return, either. Again, nothing against the nuclear power plant, but wish there was more consideration put into the amount of light and noise pollution it produces.

4 miles from where I live and I feel as safe as I would if it wasn't.

Never have been there, but maybe living in Byron in near future. Nuclear power is the best source for electricity.

Nuclear energy is clean, safe, space-efficient, and powerful. We need more nuclear power plants in the United States.

Lived in Rockford for nearly 4 years and never knew how close this plant was. Planning on moving back soon and might seek employment since my Nascar stint ran outta gas. Stay safe everybody - Shake & Bake!
