Denbies is misleading nothing to do with the Denbies vineyard which is some miles away from this location. The locals know the area as Ranmore common. Denbies is more or less a ‘brand name’ labelled by National Trust. I’ll start with the car park.... Free parking for NT members after scanning your membership card at the parking machine. As with all NT car parks, expect to pay around 6 for all day parking if you are not an NT member. There are free parking spaces on the road in the surrounding area, but please park responsibly. In busier months, It’s not uncommon for visitors to park irresponsibly and upset locals. Essentially, just don’t block people’s drives and stay off grass verges. Once parked you immediately have a view point as you enter the mouth of the common. It’s truly stunning and their are breathtaking views over Dorking town, Box Hill and Leith Hill and tower (highest points of south east England). The main walk is a nature reserve walk and is signposted. This was too short for us, so we ventured off over the railway and walked around fields (public footpaths) and went back under a bridge into Denbies. If you enjoy railways and trains, you will love it here! You can get close up to trains on the GWR north downs way like. On the hill you can watch them come and go and see them travelling in the distance for quite a few miles. There is no cafe or toilets here, so be prepared. A lovely place got a walk.

What a beautiful place for a walk. The car park wasn’t very busy, so nice and easy to park. The ticket machine wasn’t working but you can use an app to pay if required. I did the Denbies hillside nature walk, the views were absolutely stunning. It takes you to the bottom and then clearly, you know you’re going to have to make it back up the hill. The NT online guide I used reckoned it’s take 2 hours but it was quite a lot quicker than that. Perhaps it allows for some longer stops which are totally called for, given the views to take in. Thoroughly recommend - I’ll be coming back here again soon.

Great views of the Surrey Hills. Such lovely countryside with footpaths and some open space for picnics and for the kids to play. Do bring your own seats or picnic rug as there are very few benches.

Lovely walk along the top of the downs. Firm, fairly even and wide path through the trees and with several viewing points opening up from time to time presenting with benches to while away the time or take refreshment. We chose to do a circuit meaning going downhill and then a strenuous climb back up. Good exercise. Wildlife in the form of deer and kite (? bird of prey anyway) circling before swooping down. Marvellous sights.
