I am a newer member of this post, having retired in 2008 from the Army. What I love about this post is the positive atmosphere. We just want to help and bring more to the community while sharing good times with each other. We hope we see you soon!

Great vets and awesome yard
VFW Post 8469 is an excellent opportunity for men and women vets to find comradeship and opportunities for service to other vets and to the community. It is an active and engaged organization, expertly managing finances and resources. On the social side, there are frequent weekend cookouts, special events, and just plain times for fun. The Post is involved in the Fairfax County community and coordinates with other organization, especially the newly formed Fairfax Veterans Treatment Court. Though it is a well established Post, the elected leadership is largely from the ranks of younger Iraq and Afghanistan vets. With around 300 members, the Post is large enough to make an impact, and small enough to foster personal relationships. Our senior members, from WW2 and Korea, are respected and honored. For vets who don't like getting lost in a crowd. BTW, since we don't have a bar or canteen we don't sit around on bar stools...we are busy!
I have been involved with VFW Post 8469 since 2011. Their commitment to building and supporting their veteran community has been both inspiring and personally helpful. This post has sting ties to George Mason University and the Veterans Society there as well as many others in their community and veterans and active military of/in foreign wars. Several of their members are officers in the VFW 10th District and many of the post's leadership are veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are a veteran with qualifying overseas service in the Fairfax area and are seeking a vibrant, community of veterans serving veterans, come by VFW Post 8469 for dinner on the first Monday of every month (except July, September and December) at 6PM!
I love this post. I went to other posts in the past and was thoroughly uninterested in them. But this VFW post is different. For one there wasn't a bunch of old men sitting around a bar, smoking, and telling war stories, because this post doesn't have a bar and doesn't allow smoking inside. Second, this post was alive, it was vibrant, they were always doing something; going on camping trips, helping out in the community, going to baseball games, having family BBQs. Lastly, you can tell that they really care about their actual post home and also their members. VFW Post 8469 is definitely unlike any other VFW post that I have ever seen.
