‘This Company hasn’t treated you very well’ - that’s what my Manager said to me on my last day after many years of working hard in a very challenging environment. Awful, awful, awful company and easily the worst I’ve ever worked for. Poor decisions by senior management left me “resource short” and struggling for several years. Despite several suggestions and calls for help it was obvious they were ignorant and not listening. Working weekends, very long hours and not having a sick-day in nearly twelve years left me frustrated and ineffective as a manager. Harsco say they promote and support team work, involvement and “work-family” balance - in reality this is a total untruth and an absolute joke. The senior decision makers do not listen and the HR Department are ineffective and unsupportive. During my employment I unfortunately witnessed similar acts of discrimination and criticism aimed at selected “victims”. Such a shame as it used to be a very good company. My suggestion would be to look at the issues and discuss the solutions with those involved and effected - rather than their current strategy of reacting with force and punishment. I will never forget my last day when my manager opened up and said ‘this company has not treated you well’. He left the business after less than two years. After nearly fifty years of employment mainly in the management of people and operations I have been fortunate to have experienced a wide range of professional organisations - unfortunately this Company is not one of those. If only their biggest rail customer knew how they do business!!!
