The history on the hanger and just the sheer size of it is very cool. They have a good collection of airship stuff in the museum area. Inside the hanger itself is a mock aircraft carrier that speaks to the current mission of Lakehurst. Not something I would travel to far to see, but if you are in the area it's worth it.
Not sure if this is the hangar the Hindenburg would have been housed in. But it is very large. Stopped by to check it out. The doors are huge and need to be opened by some very large machines. Be cool if the had the ability to open it up. Seems to have been sitting for years.
Great living museum. The vet who runs the tour is the greatest. The tour is free but you have to sign up for it, and they will bring you on to the base since the base itself is restricted.
I was thoroughly impressed with the Hinderberg memorial tour, and the military museum located inside this hanger. It was both impressive and personal. The stories and tales to be shared were something special, and the collection is impressive.
What are the hours and days this place is open? How do you get on the base, Is this open to the public?
