Open since 1985, this delightful, unpretentious restaurant in Forest Hill, London, is renowned for its stunning and innovative modern Indian cuisine. Babur's stylish, earthy interior features exposed brick walls, natural wooden furniture and beautiful handmade Bengali artworks. The intimate atmosphere and sensational staff have made Babur a favourite dining destination with Forest Hill locals, and the food is worth making a trip across town for. We highly recommend the spicy sardine fish cake stuffed with caramelised figs; sandalwood ostrich infused with fenugreek; and black cod in spices and mustard oil with mustard mash. The wine list, designed by Peter McCombie, is also superb and features 16 wines by the glass, and 34 bottles for under £20.|We always keep in mind that we are serving our local community, so all our offers are geared towards making it easier for you to enjoy our food and drink menus, try out new items or just hold down the cost of enjoying a good meal with us.

Very neat and accessible restaurant. They serve large meals and for reasonable rates. We liked the food a lot and the staff members were super attentive and chatty. Recommended.

Food and wine excellent, service friendly and efficient, and a great atmosphere. We're infrequent visitors to the Babur, but have been going since the '90s. The food is wonderful - interesting and well presented starters, and main courses you won't find in any normal UK Indian restaurant - no 'base sauce plus chicken/lamb/tofu/prawns' options here. The food is prepared with care and attention, and is delicious. There are pescatarian, diary free, vegetarian and vegan options, and the menu is available online. The interior was revamped several years ago and is now bare brick, but has a warm intimate feel. We were lucky enough this time to be seated in the summer marquee, which reminded me pleasantly of a wedding reception. We were in the last sitting, and were served promptly, after a slight wait for a table. Starters are around 8, mains 16, wine from 24 upwards (check out the bin ends section of the wine list for good wine at good prices), and cocktails around 9. Covid precautions were in place, with staff wearing gloves and masks, and a sanitiser at the entrance, but restaurant dining is an inherently risky business if you want to avoid catching it (or infecting others). Chairs and tables were being wiped after use, but I'm not sure if the surfaces were getting the sanitiser for the minimum time the solutions need for them to work.

Excellent venue and well prepared for social distancing. The food (I had the lamb) was good but don't go there hungry, because I thought the quantities are not generous. For dessert I had the fruit crumble, nice, but very sweet. The presentation of your meal is excellent and the service is very good. An overall pleasant experience 7/10. Meal for 2 with beer and dessert 70 .

Great food , everything was delicious. We went on the first day after lockdown restrictions were eased, so I think they were still setting up after being closed for a month or so but the service was still very good. Cocktails are also unique and very good specially old Monk old fashioned

Local gem. Family have been going to Babur since they opened in ‘85. Wonderful food and amazing service. Great cocktails (and mocktails!) too. Chilli cheese naan might just be the best I’ve ever had!
