The National Gallery is a truly amazing place to be, specially for art lovers. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. Admission to the gallery is completely free, which is not the case in other galleries situated in different European cities. The gallery is very well kept and you'll find all the original paintings of famous painters starting from 13th to 20th century like Duccio, Uccello, van Eyck, Lippi, Mantegna, Botticelli, Dürer, Memling, Bellini, Michelangelo, Raphael, Holbein, Bruegel, Bronzino, Titian, Veronese, Caravaggio, Rubens, Poussin, Van Dyck, Velázquez, Claude, Rembrandt, Cuyp, Vermeer, Canaletto, Goya, Turner, Constable, Ingres, Degas, Cézanne, Monet, and Van Gogh.
Apart from the regular galleries, there are also exhibitions held often in this place, along with other events which you could attend if you're interested. Don't forget to visit the National Portrait Gallery too, which is located right by the side of the National Gallery, but often overlooked by the tourists.
