We had a delicious dinner at 'Au Cheval Noir'. The restaurant is spacious and the tables are not cramped together, which is is very nice in these times. We had the Paysan potage (Farmers soup) which was delicious. My huisband had the 'Choucroute d'Alsace' (sauerkraut) and I had the 'Tarte flambée gratinée' (Flammkuchen). Both were very good. All this great food was accompanied with a great local Pinot Blanc. The menu is also available in German or English. We had a great time, thank you.

Good food, very friendly personnel. A bit busy, perhaps because of its quality. They have a good variety of dishes, including local foods (flammekueche, etc.) and wines. Delicious desserts too!
A nice little unassuming restaurant in Ribeauville with the vineyards a stone's throw away. Decor simple and basic but clean and well maintained. Traditional Alsatian cuisine which has strong Germanic influence. The Coq au Reisling is the region's version of the famous Coq au Vin and it is indeed tasty. We also ordered the Tarte Flambee, another specialty of the region which was delicious and paired perfectly with the 2014 Fuch Henry Grand Cru Pinot Gris also from the region. The veal cordon bleu stuffed with Munster cheese and smoked ham was unfortunately not well executed and the meat was tough. What also brought the rating down for this establishment is the poor service. The serving staff were sullen and even downright rude spoiling what could have been a pleasant lunch.
Food is great but service is horrible! It could have been four stars because food is really good but you need to understand that running a restaurant means also a good service. It’s equally important as food. We came to restaurant second and waited for main course for 55 minutes (!!!) although the same dish was served to other tables few times. They forgot about us. We asked twice and waitress told me „you had your starter so wait for main”. Instead of saying „I’m sorry I’ll check” she chose to be rude. After we finished the dish we were waiting additional 15-20 minutes for anyone to come and clean the table. We wanted to pay and we were ignored again. I had to go to bar to pay! I’ve been in many restaurants in France but never encountered this level of ignorance and rudeness.
Ordered the chicken in riesling wine sauce with spätzel. The chicken was a drum, thigh. and wing (all dark meat) all dry. The wine sauce had flavor after some salt. The spätzel was burned and had no flavor/seasoning at all-not even butter.... I thought everything came with butter on it in France for goodness sakes. Bottom line not worth 20 euro. All three in our party ordered the same exact item and all agreed that the food was not worth the money. Sorry.........
Room simple but food delicious and not expensive (good price). Go to it and enjoy your belly
3 stars for the food minus 3 for the service from the owner. It was like John Cleese in Faulty Towers. He was running all the time, didn't pay attention to his guests, yelling at his personel and throw the dishes and wine on the table and ran away before they stoped shaking. Served wine in four glases in one movement! I told him he would die before we left Alsace, if he didn't relaxes - he didn't hear my advise! He pulled out the recipe from the printer, hadn't time to wait! CHOCKING!
From the outside the restaurant doesn't look particular charming. It's decorations seems modern but done with little taste. My partner ordered a cordon blue and I ordered the sirloin steake with spätzle. My partner was very satisfied with the gordon blu, done with a good cheese and ham, definitely homemade. The steak was good, more rare than medium which was what I'd asked for, but I enjoyed it. For dessert we got crème brulee. One was nicely done with a good consistency while the other was a little overdone. Overall we still left feeling we had a nice dinner that filled us, though nothing out if the ordinary.
