I have been eating from time to time at Da Fortunato since 2001. They have always been my first choice for the one restaurant I want to visit in Rome after coming all the way to Italy. I know anything I order will be delicious and of good quality. I always see the same waiters I used to see, they alway give me honest recommendations for what food is fresh that day, and which is not. This can be hard to find in another restaurant. I write this today because this time I found the food to be more sophisticated, more creative but always delicious.

Absolutely a gem! Perfect for wine tasting, they have a wide selection of Italian reds and whites, offering small glass (from 25ml), storing wine in a high tech fridge with azote (no oxygen!) and using a pump to pour it into glasses! The staff is very professional and cools the glass before pouring (to keep the right temperature for white wine in the hot August).

I share the views of others: too expensive, owner is rude (just read what he writes, his attitude permeates the restaurant), and we fell for the \it's better off the piazza\ mentality. In fact, the restaurants on the piazza are more friendly, less expensive and charming. I think the prices are so high here because it is less crowded/visited than other restaurants. It can't be the ambiance. I wish I'd read these reviews before dining last winter. We stayed close by, so we did walk by several more times. It was not crowded, which is why people stop in. We have been to Rome many times and have some idea of the price to value ratio for a restaurant. Skip this one.

The wine bar next door is great to have a quick antipasti plate before getting seated, wine selection is exquisite and sold in small glasses so you can try multiple options. Quaint and cozy.

This is individual but our waiter was very polite and professional. It is like you are being served by your friend. We have tried many different dishes but I would separate pasta as a must. Pasta with truffles one should not skip here.
