I totally recommend It. We tasted a special Mini kaiseki, by 5000l and It was delicious. People were very kind, and they explained us what we were eating. Dishes were small but we ate many different so, finally we were full, so quantity perfect. All a wonderfull Japanese experience .

The mediocre rating here on Google is not fair. You have to go with the right expectations: simple and good reasonable priced traditional food in a simple location. It’s convenient. If you want romantic atmosphere, a view and chic dining you need to choose a different restaurant. It was recommended to us by our hotel for a spontaneous traditional dinner because it’s near to our hotel, reasonable price for Kiseki-Dinner and there is no reservations needed. Kiseki is a multi-course meal and can be really expensive if you go to a top location in Gion/at the river starting at 15’000 Yen till 40’000 Yen. Here at Tagoto you get a good Kiseki starting at 6000 Yen till 10‘000 Yen. Tagoto is small (around 6 tables) and has very simple interior. Western Style tables, only one separate room with Japanese seating, as far as we have seen. You can order different Soba styles, Bento Boxes, Fish on rice or Kaiseki Menus. We ordered Bento with Sashimi and Soba with tempura. Everything was really good! The bento box came with Entrée, Sashimi, Box with different Fish, Egg, Vegetable, Rice and Dessert. We both got green tea with free refills as well as roasted green tea at the end of the dinner. We both chose a plum wine and had a total bill of 9‘700 Yen. They also have a lunch menu, if you want to try Kaiseki light even cheaper ;) The staff was very friendly, fast and everyone was in Kimono, which was nice. Also there were only locals - we think that is a good sign.
Impeccable service, delicious food, very calm surroundings hidden on a busy street
We had 2 kaiseki sets choosing the most expensive ones available in the restaurant. The food is good (close to 4 stars) but since kaiseki is more experiencefood rather than food only, I think the restaurant need to improve much more. Single-use chopsticks and paper towel are far from \kaiseki\... food is served with poor decoration compared to other kaiseki restaurant, same fish is repeated in 2/3 dishes, sushi and sashimi are just middle quality. 10% service fees 8% tax have to be added.
Tricked into extra course of (expensive) sushi; manipulative trick to get people to spend more money. Food was good and waitresses very friendly. The entourage of the restaurant is screaming for a make-over though.
