This trek is one hell of a journey. From the dense forests to one of the Largest meadows and then to the chilly Roopkund lake. This trek is filled with an aura of mythology. Roopkund has many stories and you will get to know alot about them on the trek from the locals. The feeling when you reach the top is unbeatable. It's just pure joy of achievement. Must do. Moderately difficult and some experience is required in Himalayas to enjoy the trek.

Trek for this place starts from wan, it is one of the difficult treks, you always tread on the ridges, so views are mesmerising, also altitude is high enough to make you mountain sick, I would suggest take your time and go slow, five to six day for the trek would be good. I am posting some of the pics of the trek.

Breathtakingly Beautiful and serene It's a 8 day trek. Lots of local trekking companies are there but we went through Trek The Himalayas team. They are well versed with the routes and have some of the best guides you can get. When trekking through these having someone local would help allot and then telling stories of each and every place is a learning in itself.

The Himalayan region is blessed with several gorgeous high altitude lakes. But the one which catches the maximum attention is the Roopkund Lake, gorgeous, and shrouded in mystery. The lake is situated at a height of about 5,000 meters above sea level in Uttaranchal’s Chamoli District. During the summer season, when the ice melts in the lake, you can see several hundred corpses floating in the lake. The skeletons of the corpses have been well preserved because f the cold climatic conditions. Scientific evidence suggests that the corpses date back to around 12th century, but nobody knows the real story behind the mass deaths. Roopkund Lake is probably the only place on earth which continues to be beautiful despite the presence of about hundred skeletons Roopkund, perhaps the most popular trek in India, is almost picture perfect. The Roopkund trail climbs out of splendid dark forests suddenly bursting into Ali and Bedni Bugyal, arguably India’s most beautiful high altitude meadows. Out of the meadows the trail quickly gets into terrific alpine stretches. Climbing on snow to the Roopkund lake is a heart-pounding thrill. The beautiful Mt Trishul looms over the setting getting closer as you climb higher, when at a ridge above Roopkund, only air separates the trekker from them and Trishul. The two gigantic alpine meadows of Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal will blow your mind away. It almost feels like walking into the famous Windows XP wallpaper. Throughout the trek you’re fed with magnificent views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti. Apart from these two, you see the imposing Chaukhamba range, Neelkanth peak, Kedarnath, Kedar Dome and several other high risers on the Roopkund trek.
