Awesome piece of history here!!! Built in 1853 (upper/north end) of cast iron columns and a gabled roof...it is older than the state of West Virginia! It is also the oldest cast iron market house in the country! It was originally an open market where Wheeling settlers could buy meats & produce. It is still, to this day, an operating market. However, it has changed a bit to accommodate the weather/climate without compromising the history...it is now enclosed and air conditioned/heated. There is an art gallery where you can purchase local artisan works (if that's your thing) and the Coleman's fish sandwiches at the deli are really good.
